Jump the Track is a comedic visual novel with pachinko or brick breaker style mini games. You play as Sam, a slacker who is doing his best to get his life together while getting by with different odd jobs. After accidentally destroying a valuable teddy bear, Sam has to go on a journey across the city to replace it, all while its citizens are in the middle of a revolution against the social elite. Every decision made by Sam is influenced by your performance in an associated arcade board that represents Sam’s inner thoughts and emotions. Different outcomes lead to different conversation paths, sometimes ones that weren’t intended.

Official Steam Deck support for Jump the Track is currently marked as unknown, nevertheless it still launches and runs with near perfect performance. No changes to proton were needed nor were any changes to controller settings. The game easily runs at a locked 60 FPS with very low CPU/GPU usage and minimal battery impact. Playing with no changes results in about 3.5-4 hours of battery life. Being that the game is a visual novel means that high frame rates aren’t necessarily important to gameplay. I found it best to lock the Deck’s frame rate to 30 for the best possible battery life while still looking and playing just as well.

With your Steam Deck fully charged and locked to 30 FPS, you can easily expect over 4.5 hours of battery life while playing Jump the Track. Combine that with a time to beat of around three hours, great replayability, and a price tag of only $10,  you get a game that you can finish in one sitting without ever needing to grab the charger. Jump the Track is a great time that I’d recommend to fans of silly animated adventures and is a perfect addition to anyone’s Steam Deck library.
