Assassin’s Creed Mirage just received its biggest update yet with Title Update 1.1.0, dropping today as part of the game’s two year anniversary. For anyone who already enjoyed Basim’s story, this update adds a surprising amount of new content and fixes across the entire game.

I’m a massive fan of Mirage. For me, it’s the best Assassin’s Creed we’ve had out of the last three, and this update only reinforces that. It’s completely free and adds somewhere between six and ten hours of new content, depending on how much you dive into replayable missions and optional challenges.

Mirage also runs better on Steam Deck than people give it credit for. From last year’s footage and after a few patches, the game sits nicely around 40 to 45 FPS, which feels great on Deck.

Valley of Memory – A New Free Adventure

The headline addition is Valley of Memory, a new story expansion set before the finale of the main game. Basim hears a rumour that his long-lost father may still be alive, and after speaking with Dervis he heads to AlUla, a region full of secrets, ruins and vibrant oases.

You do need to progress a little in the base game to access the new content. Once you’ve reached the “Head of the Snake” mission, you can begin the new storyline. You can also skip ahead when starting a new save if you prefer.

Explore AlUla

AlUla itself is a stunning new region from the Golden Age of the Abbasid Empire. It’s split into two major areas: the Land of the Dead in the north and the Land of the Living in the south. Each has its own style, activities and exploration routes.

The new location includes returning world events and contracts plus fresh activities like Stolen Goods, where you hunt down secret maps, and Oud Melodies, which work a little like Black Flag’s sea shanties but with parkour sequences instead.

Replay Missions Through Animus Sequences

One of the most requested features is finally here. Missions and contracts can now be replayed through the Animus Sequences menu or by using Animus icons in the world. These come with new challenges that reward Animus Mods, which refill tools and Assassin Focus over time inside Animus Sequences or New Game+.

Improved Parkour and Controls

Parkour gets a noticeable upgrade with the addition of Free Jump. You can now manually jump during traversal by toggling the new option in settings.

Back and side ejects have been improved and can be set to “Free” mode so Basim doesn’t need a perfect landing spot. A new modern control preset has also been added if you want a smoother feel, especially with Free Jump enabled.

New Difficulty Options

Two new difficulty modes land with the update. Hardened Assassin sits between Normal and Hard, while Ultimate Assassin is now the toughest way to play. Both offer rewards for completing permadeath runs. There’s also a full Custom Difficulty preset if you want to fine-tune the experience.

Level 3 Tool Upgrades

Tools now go up to level 3, each gaining a new ability. A few examples:

Throwing Knives become explosive

Smoke Bomb turns corrosive and dissolves bodies

Blow Dart pierces heavily armoured enemies

Noisemaker can put enemies to sleep

Traps can drive enemies berserk and make them attack each other

Extra Improvements and Fixes

The update comes with a long list of gameplay tweaks, UI updates, combat adjustments and bug fixes. A few highlights:

A new Engineer 2 skill allowing all level 1 tool upgrades

Better notoriety balancing

Improved parry animations and attack feedback

Fast travel between Baghdad and AlUla once the questline begins

Better horse camera controls

HDR fix for overly dim visuals

Improved stability and crash fixes

A Massive Free Update Worth Jumping Into

There is a lot packed into this patch. Between the new region, the story expansion, gameplay changes, control improvements, mission replay and new difficulty options, Mirage feels much more complete. For players who like squeezing every bit out of an Assassin’s Creed game, this update adds even more reason to revisit Baghdad and now AlUla as well.
